The Platonic Human Centipede Review: PrideFest 2025

Don’t watch this show if you don’t want your cheeks to hurt (no that’s not an innuendo).

Now I want to ask you a question, I want you to think very hard about it. If you could have your best friend there for every amazing, awful, awesome and mundane moment of your life, would you? The answer is yes of course.

*Disclaimer* They would be physically attached to you, mouth to ass, human caterpillar style. Change anything? I would hope not, fake friend.

The sketch comedy musical extravaganza that is The Platonic Human Centipede explores the many facets of codependency and the iconic pairings that often go unchecked. You have heard of chalk and cheese but think of vampires and lesbians or santa and therapy. Mel and Sam the iconic cabaret duo cleverly take you on a chaotic, yet sharply presented journey of these unsung duos. Their lyrical ability could rival a really good lyricist (I don’t know any lyricists, so let's just say Taylor Swift?). Every song is expertly crafted with double meaning, wit and cultural accuracy. It’s hard to get away without at least one earworm. Trust me.

In comedy timing is everything, and gee do these two know their timing, not a beat or opportunity was missed. From offhand comments to improvised lines, every utterance from the mouths of Mel or Sam made me absolutely cackle. Commedia Dell’arte who? These two are facial expression queens. Their stamina and endurance is something to be studied, leaving me feeling pathetically out of breath from laughing so much.

From dazzlingly glitzy outfits to paper cut out wigs and cheap dollar store costumes, Mel and Sam bridge the gap between budget and purpose as everything seems perfectly designed for a laugh. Sketch or musical comedy may not be for everyone, but it’s certainly rising in the ranks of popularity for its camp exuberance and the trying times we are living in. Faced with a flood I’d definitely get on the gay boat over the straight, so if you're not on board, jump on. There's even something for the boomers.

So if you like joy, are worried about Britany Spears and her knife dances or have ever dreamed of having a paternal figure like Willy Wonka then this show is for you. Watch it and follow Mel and Sam to continue and support their miraculous journey of being attached at the hip (sorry mouth to ass, human caterpillar style).
